Wikipedia defines ataraxia as “a lucid state of robust equanimity characterized by ongoing freedom from distress and worry … the intended result of epoché (i.e., suspension of judgment) regarding all matters of dogma (i.e., non-evident belief).”
The purpose of this portfolio is to provide a potential testing ground for epoché by juxtaposing people, things, and states against their opposites, and to experiment with how media can resist its political tendency to lead people away from ataraxia with implicit narratives.
I view this as a very fruitful area for exploration. The practice of epoché not only serves artistic endeavors like this; it also serves life. It has benefited me personally and helped me resolve interpersonal conflicts.
